Natural MedicineThere are numerous healing modalities that can be categorized as natural medicine.
Eating a nutrient-rich diet and living a healthy lifestyle are two of them, as these habits help you prevent disease and stay healthy. I admit I am biased, because my training is in naturopathic medicine, but I feel it is important to do everything you can to be in charge of your own health care, and to use natural, non-toxic therapies whenever possible. Though I am a naturopathic doctor, I take advantage of what conventional medicine has to offer when it is appropriate. In an emergency, there is no place I would rather be than in a hospital with state-of-the art modern medical facilities. I have the utmost respect for conventional medicine's diagnostic procedures, and when I recently had Lyme disease, I dutifully took my 3 week course of antibiotics. But for general, everyday health issues, I choose to use alternative therapies. In addition to being passionate about nutrition and living a healthy lifestyle, I personally gravitate to and have a true reverence for herbal medicine. I use botanicals frequently to support my health and that of my family. I advise you to educate yourself about natural ways to deal with common health complaints and to seek out health care practitioners who are caring and compassionate, and who are open to the holistic approach. Integrating both conventional and alternative medicine is ideal, so you can take advantage of the best of both worlds.
Be open-minded and seek out those healing modalities that make sense to you and truly contribute to your wellness on all levels: mind, body, and spirit.
