Healthy Fertility Diet

If you want to become pregnant, eating a healthy fertility diet can be very helpful.

The best fertility diet is a natural foods diet eaten for at least 3-6 months before trying to become pregnant.

It is best when both partners are eating this way so that meal preparation is easier and you and your partner can provide mutual support. Perhaps most importantly, though, the healthier both parents are, the healthier the future child(ren) will be.

That being said, if you learn you are pregnant but were not following anything close to the optimum fertility diet before, it is a perfectly fine time to start now!

Protein is very important for keeping blood sugar balanced, so you should eat some protein with each meal and snack. (and if you are already pregnant, you should eat somewhere between 60-80 grams of protein per day). Make sure to always eat breakfast and have protein with your breakfast.

Healthy fats should also be stressed in the diet. These are a must for optimal hormone production and to provide essential fatty acids and fat-soluble vitamins. Adequate fats are also important for proper utilization of minerals in food. The best fats to eat are organic coconut oil, olive oil, sesame oil, organic butter and cream, the fats from the meat and milk of grass-fed animals, avocado, and raw nuts (these also contain protein).

Other things to keep in mind are that foods high in EPA, DHA, and alpha-linolenic acid are needed for the optimal development of the fetal eyes and brain, and that foods high in vitamin A are necessary for estrogen production. Zinc, B vitamins, calcium, and vitamin D are also very important for women and men following a holistic fertility diet.

Red clover, nettles and red raspberry are herbs that can boost fertility. I recommend taking them daily in the form of an herbal infusion. Once you become pregnant, you should discontinue the red clover, but you can continue using the other herbs as they contribute to the overall health and wellness of the body.
