Healthy Cookie Recipes

Who doesn't love cookies? They are a hit with just about everyone, so it's nice to have some healthy cookie recipes at the ready.

You can use these recipes as is, or as inspiration for adapting some of your favorites. It is usually pretty easy to make just about any cookie recipe healthier if you substitute organic whole grain ingredients for refined white flour (try using whole wheat, spelt, and oats flours instead, or do some research and experimentation to learn how to bake gluten-free).

Sugar is another matter. I generally use unrefined sweeteners such as organic sugar, raw honey, maple syrup or agave, but these are still not good for you in large amounts, so it's also good to try to decrease the sweetener content overall. You can try to add some mashed bananas or applesauce into your cookie batter- these are naturally sweet and provide moisture as well.

Use free-range organic eggs and use butter or coconut oil instead of vegetable oil (see healthy fats). Fresh or dried fruits, veggies such as pumpkin and zucchini, nuts, seeds, herbs, spices, and coconut can add nutrition and great flavor to your healthy cookie recipes, as well.
