Green Tea Smoothie

This is one of my favorite healthy smoothies because it is very high in health-enhancing antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals (green tea nutrition is awesome, isn't it?!). If you add coconut oil, it also gives you some healthy fats.

Since it does not include bananas, this is a low-carb smoothie that is appropriate for a cleansing or weight loss plan (studies have also highlighted matcha green tea as beneficial for healthy weight loss).

It might be a little bitter, so if you find you prefer it sweeter, you can add a little stevia to this green tea smoothie; you could also add some banana, pineapple, or soaked dried fruit such as figs or dates for added sweetness (just remember that these add carbs, albeit healthy ones, which in excess may inhibit weight loss).

Matcha Tea Smoothie
1 cup frozen cherries
1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
3 romaine, kale, or other leafy green leaves
juice of 1/2 lemon-optional
1 cup water
1/2 tsp. matcha green tea powder
1 Tb. coconut oil--optional

Directions:

Blend all ingredients well, adding ice or additional water to produce desired consistency. Serves 1.
